Coastal Kids Home Care

Challenge

Coastal Kids Home Care is a pediatric home health agency in California providing high-quality, compassionate home care to children with serious or life-limiting illnesses,  all at a very low cost to families and while maximizing community healthcare dollarRally San Jose nonprofits, businesses, and families in the community to take part in Touch-A-Truck San Jose, a fundraising event benefiting the nonprofit, Coastal Kids Home Care. 

While  Coastal Kids Home Care is headquartered in Salinas, CA, the organization has  expanding into several surrounding counties, including Santa Clara County. The goal was to bring the nonprofit’s signature fundraising  event to History Park San Jose in order to heighten the organization’s profile in one of its most important areas of operation, not only to raise awareness about its services but also to increase the potential donor pool for future fundraising efforts. 

The event chosen to lead this effort was Coastal Kids’ signature fundraising event, Touch a Truck. While Touch-A-Truck had been a successful event in Salinas, we wanted to make sure we created an event that would also be a draw in Coastal Kids’ expanded areas of operation, namely, Santa Clara and nearby counties.

Strategies & Tactics

  • Location choice – San Jose offers many good event venues, but PRxDigital selected History San Jose, which offered plenty of room for all the event elements, good parking, and a ready-made parade route.
  • Since the event was to be held in April;, we had to act quickly to avoid conflicting with Christmas fundraising activities, so reminders and calls to donors and sponsors were scheduled well in advance.
  • Message development was required to fully explain the organization’s mission to a new set of potential partners and donors.
  • PRxDigital undertook complete redesign of the sponsorship packet.
  • Event planning, coordination and implementation including booths, activities,displays, food trucks, etc. The Touch a Truck event included a 50-vehicle classic car parade, 20 working trucks, 10 local nonprofits, and more
  • PRxDigital developed a comprehensive advertising campaign on radio and TV news, and wrote and produced a commercial featuring presenting sponsors, T.J. and Valeta Rodgers.
  • Media relations – utilizing releases, advisories and phone calls, PRxDigital was able to attract on-site media coverage as well as getting after-the-event stories using our oen photos and b-roll video.

Results

  • News coverage for our client included ABC7, NBC Bay Area, and the front page of The Mercury News Local. 
  • The event raised over $100,000. The event was so successful, Coastal Kids Home Care is planning to bring this event back to History Park San Jose in 2024 and beyond.
